Absolute imports in React Native

Absolute imports in React Native

When we have a large React Native project, we are facing to have long relative imports in the project like this:

import MyHeader from '../../../../../MyHeader'

it can be confusing when you have too many folders and imports. Furthermore code looks messy. Luckily we have the solution for that problem, we can convert relative imports to absolute imports. it's pretty straightforward

Let's take a look at how to do it, First we need to plugin

$ npm install --save-dev babel-plugin-module-resolver

or

$ yarn add --dev babel-plugin-module-resolver

After installing the package add following code your  babel.config.js

@myapp is an alias you can give whatever you want.

{
  plugins: [
    [
      'module-resolver',
      {
        alias: {
          '@myapp': './app',
        },
      },
    ],
  ],
}

After that, you need to restart packager with this command

yarn start --reset-cache

if you are using Visual Studio Code , you will face this warning

To solve this problem add the following code tsconfig.json

"baseUrl": "./",
"paths": {
      "@myapp/*": ["app/*/index", "app/*"]
 }
{
  "compilerOptions": {
